Bird Habitat and Shelter Study
This project explores how local architecture and environmental needs can inform the design of a functional birdhouse tailored to a bird species native to Austin. Each design decision responds to the habitat requirements of the bird and the architectural character of the city it calls home.

Research & References
Research & References
Species-specific design based on the nesting behavior of Carolina Chickadees: small, shaded nesting cavities with 1⅛-inch entrances and soft, insulating nest materials. Natural materials and insulated construction create a safe, climate-appropriate habitat. Architectural inspiration from the Austin Capitol connects the birdhouse to its local context.

Sketches & Ideation
Sketches & Ideation
The design process began with sketches to explore fundamental questions about form and function, including how the birdhouse would open for cleaning, how drainage would be managed, and how the roof pitch would shed rainwater away from the entry hole. Several options were tested through drawing, including hinged panels and lift-off roofs.
